Working at Home Is Information Really Power?

Working at Home

Yes, information is power but only if you use the information to do something. Just having knowledge while good, does not really do much to help anyone. There are many people that never feel they know enough to actually do something with what they have learned.  They just keep reading and learning and never get off the dime.

This can be referred to as paralysis by analysis for one thing. I know many who have fallen to this temptation.  What is needed here is a great big dose of self-confidence to feel that you are worthy to take what you have learned and do something useful with it. This is just so you can believe that you have valuable information and that you do understand it well enough to share it in some way.

There may be other factors at play when someone just can’t get past the learning curve, other than lack of self-confidence. It may be a mechanism that you employ purposely (albeit perhaps subconsciously) to keep you from having to take the next step in your progression.  Maybe you really don’t want a commitment like a home business?

You find it intriguing to think about but when you actually think it is time to get started developing your business, spending money and time, you will always find some other reason that you can’t move forward. In this way it remains a possibility, but you will never have to find out whether you would have succeeded or failed.

One thing that may be helpful in moving past your dilemma (after you admit you have a problem), would be to write things down. They say you are much more likely to actually do something if you write it down and read it periodically. Don’t just read it.  Actually meditate on it for a few minutes. What does this involve if I actually do something? I have a list of leads with everything I need to take action with.  How much effort would it take to actually pick up the phone, use a script, and talk to a live person?  What would it be like to have a business running at home? Who are some of the people that could benefit if I share what I have learned with them?

While you would think someone with a bank of information may make a great teacher and could start a team that would collaborate to build something, it would also be perfectly acceptable to just use the information to do your own thing. The point is, Just do it.

What do you see in Costa Rica?

Common question for me when I tell people that I would love to live there.  What do I see in Costa Rica?   Well, let me tell you…

It’s the beauty of the place for starters.  Volcanic mountains with some activity like Hawaii.  It’s beautiful beaches like most caribbean islands.  It’s tranquility.  It’s happiness.  It’s adventure!

I’m hardly an expert on the place and I have a tendency to be impulsive but a ten year plus history of saying that someday I would like to live there is hardly impulsive.  I’ve been there.  I’ve looked at real estate in different provinces.  My preference is the mountainous northern Pacific area, although some friends recently stayed in the Manuel Antonio area in Puntarenas.  I haven’t seen that area yet, so it’s next. manuel antonio[ Photo by: D.Convertini]

Currently, I am vicariously enjoying a book by Nadine Hays Pisani that could my eye in the Amazon Books site:  Happier Than A Billionaire: Quitting My Job, Moving to Costa Rica, and Living the Zero Hour Work Week

This is the first book in the series and I fully intend to do more than just show you pictures of pretty beaches over the next few blog posts.

I also want to explain why I’m learning internet commerce and creating multiple streams of income.  There are some residency requirements involving income in order to live there and I don’t speak enough Spanish to pass their medical boards.  Although, this too might change.  I currently think that I may wish a brick and mortar business related to health care or lifestyle improvement, but you never know until you actual get both feet in the water (or sand) and just do it.

Stay tuned and like and comment.  Appreciate suggestions too.

The Voice Inside

Self Talk

Yesterday’s Awakening

Did you ever have the feeling that all the motivational quotes and all the jealousy about other’s success have finally pushed you to the edge of the cliff and you finally need to make a decision? This week I did make a decision.  And it wasn’t that I wasn’t aware of the need for the decision or that I didn’t want to make it.  I have been looking for the right time and the reality is that there have been plenty “right times” and I just didn’t do it.

Excuse Talk

We’ve all had them.  I connected with lot’s of the right people to coach me, prod me, kick me, whatever.  There was Mark J., the World’s Laziest Networker, who taught me about the hero’s journey and self talk, and especially the Man in the Mirror.  There also was Joe Pici from my Amway days who had taken his best skill of coaching and developed his sales training coaching business for sales professionals training. He offered me coaching.  There was Michael Dloughy, who’s Mentoring for Free series hit the nail on the head when he pointed out my personality was causing me the paralysis of analysis.  Then I have been regularly receiving plenty of tips from Tom “Big Al” Schreiter by email.  SO it’s not that I didn’t have opportunity to get help.  I did…but I didn’t.   It reminds me of the story about the guy in the flood who was offered help from God with all kinds of rescue  but declined the offers.

A state trooper in a Jeep knocks on a man’s door and tells him to evacuate due to a pending flood; the man says “God will save me.” A few hours later the water is running through the man’s first floor, and the coast guard pulls up to his second story window in a boat, but he sends them away, saying “God will save me.” A little later, the man is on his roof, with floodwaters ravaging his house. A helicopter flies over and dangles a ladder, but the man waves it off. The man is swept away and drowns, and when he gets to heaven, he angrily confronts God with “why didn’t you do anything to save me.” God says “I didn’t do anything ? I sent a jeep, a boat and a helicopter.

The Moment of Truth

So once again I have arrived at a familiar place.  The water is rising, so to speak.  And a contact I made on LinkedIn connects with me on Skype and we have a video chat.  Turns out he’s in his family restaurant business in England and…does coaching for an online business that I had been involved in.  So now I have a coach.  Assignments given.  Followup on the assignments in three days.  No bullshit.  Let’s go.

My Assignments

The reason I’m writing this today is because I know that I have to reestablish myself as my own brand.   Me, Inc., so to speak.  So Thanks for reading this and I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Follow The Leader

Find a Mentor

I have been lucky enough over the years to have had good, and great, mentors.  Some of them have been teachers.  The first memory I have is of my third grade teacher at St. Marys Grade School in Elm Grove, Wisconsin.  Mrs. Turner had a lasting impression on me and instilling curiosity and the desire to seek information on my own.  That has persisted to this day.  I evaluate, critically, everything from business to people.  That is a good thing as there is a lot of superfluous and superficial things out there that appear good at first glance but on close evaluation are fluff and appearance without substance.

Another teacher with something to remember and apply was Father Forey, S.J. at Marquette HS in Milwaukee.  I’ll always remember his expression, “Zero, Ping” which meant that you didn’t present or research convincingly enough to make the grade.  Do the work, put in the time and your best effort and the results are yours.  You deserve what you get or your getting zero, nada, zip!

In business, I’ve been blessed enough with great mentors, too.  In 1993, I learned about people like Napoleon Hill, Steven Covey, John Maxwell and others.  I read and evaluated Og Mandino books.  All of their teachings are timeless and available to those that I hope to mentor.

My Role as Mentor and Coach

To expose my training, to those I share with, is important. To succeed in this world will require all the same principals.  Dream, do, and teach.  That is my mission for others. I will use the technology of today to teach the principles of the past.

Continue Seeking Wisdom

There are some teachers and trainers that are significant in my life currently.  My business coach, Mark Januszewski, is willing to share with you as he has with me.  Next month he is directing the Master Key Master Mind Alliance and I encourage you all to evaluate and participate.  The experience will change your mind, propel your business, and put you into a leadership role to pass the wisdom on to generations to come.

Not Everything for Everyone

Many very good people out there with all the right components: they have a Dream, there are willing to change their lives in order to achieve their dreams, they will commit time and treasure, and they are coachable.
The only problem is that they haven’t seen the right opportunity.
I’m no more likely to be an Avon rep. than I am to sell Jewelry or Home Party products.
Look up them up on www.businessfromhome.org and you’ll see these and thousands of others.
I think that despite the concept from up line that you need to do one thing and do it well, that
having more than one bullet in your pistol gives you options without cross recruiting or encouraging
your prospect to join multiple things.
Just don’t compete against yourself.
By that I mean don’t pitch two nutritional companies. Don’t do Avon and Mary Kay.
But be willing to find your prospects needs, want, desires, and background and offer him the one
that appeals to him and coach him in the basics of network marketing. Connect him with the right
up line. And remember to follow-up and follow often.
